Optical neutralises acidic industrial wastewater
Industrial production facilities often generate acidic wastewater that has to be neutralised. This neutralisation can be performed using various alkaline additives. Vereinigte Kreidewerke Dammann offers fine chalk for this purpose.
Two companies in the chemical industry were able to demonstrate that fine chalk meets the requirements of the operators. Chalk proves to be an equally good alternative to classical neutralisation agents in this context. Moreover, it has a positive effect on the biological treatment stages that usually follow.
The high reactivity of fine chalk suffices to increase the pH values to above 6 in just a short time; following biological treatment, the pH values are in the range between 7 and 7.5. The positive experience gained when using chalk in municipal sewage treatment plants is also repeated in industrial applications.
Being natural calcium carbonate, chalk offers the advantage of safe handling. Also, there is no risk of exceeding the permissible alkalinity by overdosing. The wastewater neutralised with fine chalk offers an ideal environment for biological clarification, as proven beyond doubt in full-scale trials. Another highly pleasing fact for our customers is that their operating costs were reduced substantially by using chalk.
